Ruby on Rails: The Language of Tomorrow

August 4, 2010 Leave a reply

We have been working in software development for many years and have seen a lot of programming fads come and go, but we feel it’s safe to say the future of development is Ruby on Rails.

ROR developers brag, “It lets you write beautiful code by favoring convention over configuration.” This phrase, “convention over configuration,” is a software design paradigm that tries to decrease the number of decisions a developer has to make, gaining simplicity without losing flexibility.

August 3, 2010 Leave a reply

There seems to be a demand for PHP programmers lately; we are filling team after team, and more new clients are requesting PHP developers as well. Our recent hiring speed and the demand for these resources has been intense and left us unable to keep up, but we plan on remedying this situation over the weekend.

This Saturday, we are going to utilize our full interview panel with our recruitment department and dedicate the whole day to hiring. We would like to bring on board at least ten PHP guys, maybe more. We’ll see how it goes, and I will keep you updated.

I have mentioned in previous posts that we have been working on shopping cart projects for two different teams. We researched several options for open source shopping carts before starting both projects but stuck with the two most popular: Magento and Zen Cart.

July 26, 2010 Leave a reply

shopping_cartWe have been working on a couple of different shopping projects lately. While on one project we are using Magento, the other project we are using Zen cart.

There is an iPhone App for just about everything these days, and more and more people are jumping on that App bandwagon. What hasn’t been developed already is rolling around in the minds of the super creative; and that’s fine by us, if you can think it, we can develop it.

We started another iPhone project this week for an existing client. It’s a mobile visitor’s guide specific to the city of Charlotte. It will be available soon in the iTunes App store. The interface and features are all part of the client’s creative plan. We are just bringing it all to life.

Occasionally, a project will require our developers to work with packaged software. This is a very trusting endeavor; some software packages/subscriptions can cost thousands of dollars.

One of our clients has trusted us to work with their Magento Enterprise Edition for their shopping carts. Magento is an open source eCommerce solution that offers merchants flexibility and complete control over their look, content, and functionality of their online store. It is a very expensive subscription, and we are honored to have such trust put into our capable hands.
